Image by Jesse Michael Nix via FlickrI have a bunch of sweet mpotatoes in the oven, so the place smells like Thanksgiving.Remember those sweet potatoes I bought? I have a dozen or so in the oven roasting. Once they are done and cooled I will mash and freeze them in 2 cup portions for baking. The freezer is just about full, though.
So I am trying to decide whether or not I should start stocking the pantry beyond a month or so worth of food. I can't give too much information, but there is a better than descent chance we will be moving within a year. We probably won't be as lucky as we were this time, with the 3 or so month notice, either. So I have 3 choices-
1. Don't stock food past the month or so notice we will be given
2. Stock up and just use what we can before we move and give the rest away
3. Stock up and just use what we can before we move and take the rest with us.
Obviously, I would only consider taking things with us that were so cheap I couldn't pass them up. That is what I stock up on, anyway. I don't stock up on things that I can run to the store at any time and buy for the same price. I generally keep a months supply of things on hand that like that, and 3 onth or so of things that were. (Usually because I have bought them in bulk.)
I would store flour, sugar, oats, etc. in food service buckets with Gamma Seals.
I have to talk to my food storage idol, Dana, and see what she thinks. Any opinions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
